Grammy wanted to take us to dinner tonight so she spent some time researching on line and finally settled on a place called ‘Route 12 Steak and Seafood.’ To me, the menu looked amazing. Lots of choices and some unique sounding flavors using local foods. The nice part is that it is only 3 minutes from the house in the Timbuk2 area of Corolla.
Then we got there.
I wish I were lying, but it was in a gas station. My hopes immediately went down the drain. But we had a reservation and the place seemed busy, so we went in. It was a neat place inside and we sat immediately. The menu was the about the same as online., which was reassuring that we weren’t going to be eating cling wrap sandwich or four day old rolling hot dogs.
The food was fantastic. Simply great. Except for the lettuce on Rylie’s plate (which she for some unknown reason handed back to our server). My meal was great (local broiled crab cakes), Chloe’s sirloin was very flavorful, and Grammy’s pecan bourbon glazed chicken with jasmine rice was outstanding. I know because I finished them all.
Of course, afterwards we went into the shops and had dessert. My new favorite ice cream is peanut butter cookies. It is at Big Bucks Ice Cream and features cookies and cream ice cream with peanut butter blended in. It’s like someone raided my DQ Blizzard order for years…
After dessert, a drive by the Currituck Lighthouse was necessary. We had never been there at night, and it was pretty neat to see it lit up.
It was a great day, lots of big waves for Rylie and I to boogie board – she’s getting pretty good – and plenty of little waves for Chloe to ride in her penguin. No, that’s not a typo.
Tomorrow we have a beach morning. Likely after more Duck Donuts – the chocolate frosted with crushed peanuts are the best – see a pattern? Then we do a 4×4 wild horse excursion up on Corova Beach in a rented Wrangler. Fun. Hope Chloe doesn’t make them test out the floorboard drains. Then back to the house for dinner and packing.
