We don’t get out often enough. That’s no joke. So when we get the chance, we like to make the most of it. Tonight, Matt and Jamie watched our girls and we headed south to Poipu for dinner at The Beach House. Not only was dinner fantastic, but the location of the restaurant is unbelievable.
With a reservation at 6:15 we were virtually assured a sunset, so we eagerly went to our table to find that the wall between us and the beach had been opened. We could look out over the beach and watch the waves break and the sun dip behind the palm trees across the beach. It was perfect. They even gave us a half round booth which afforded us the chance to sit together without worrying about who was going to help the kids.
The grounds were immaculate and welcoming, and we took the chance to go and walk around. Down past where we were sitting was a wedding reception. My immediate comment was “can you imagine what that must cost?” The response was a quick “it doesn’t matter, it would be worth it” from my wife.
The food was absolutely amazing, and while the sunset wasn’t perfect, we were treated to a rather impressive rainbow over the ocean. It stayed just long enough for a few pictures but then it disappeared.
After dinner the tables across from us left and we had a great view of the water and the sky.
Right after I took that picture, an older couple stood in front of the water and held each other. It was so touching that I took their picture and then raced out of the restaurant to tell them and get an email address so I could send it to them. I thought about posting it, but decided against it. It was such a personal moment that I struggled with taking they picture at all. But their love was evident and touching, so I couldn’t resist. Hopefully it is something that they cherish into the future, because it certainly added to our experience.
I took some flack for not including a picture of us during the evening, so here’s an update. With the picture.
