Moving on to Milan

We’re on the move again. This time a quick ride up to Milan courtesy of italo’s high speed service.

On the train we met the Ewing family from Phoenix, a couple and their three girls who have moved around as much as we have. We enjoyed the train ride with them and sharing stories made us all feel a little closer to home. I’m sure everyone in the car with us that we were old friends traveling together.

I’m a little sad that were making Milan our last Italian stopover. It just doesn’t compete with Rome or Venice. It has some old sections, but it seems to have mostly “outgrown it’s old.”That said, our meal tonight was fantastic at Trattoria Luca e Andrea. We sat outside on the Naviglio Grande and enjoyed the people watching. Naviglio Grande is a large area that attracts a wide variety of people, and being a Friday night the spanned all groups. We had fashionistas in true Milan style. There were locals casually dressed for a night out. Older people working to fit in with the larger younger crowd. And the tourists trying to fit in at all.

Chloe had massive rigatoni with tomatoes, olives, and mint. Michelle had traditional Milanese Risotto in all its bright yellow glory. I had to try cocoletto, or elephants ear, as the traditional thinly pounded chop is so large it resembles an elephant’s ear.

Gelato on the walk home from Gelatoria La Roman, another of the locations similar to the night in Rome. The flavor wasmt quite as good. But then we didn’t nearly jog a half mile through a humid city before enjoying…

Tomorrow morning Tim will join us with their two oldest as we start to explore Milan. They’re bringing the heat back with them, but it will be nice to be back together.
