A Little Slow

I missed a day. I know. But I’m on vacation and it was a recovery day. After three straight days of hiking, we needed some time off. So we slept in a little before starting our Thursday.

We decided to take a ride out to the Fairy Pools and see what we missed the other day. It was just over an hour away, but we made the trip. And I have to tell you, meh. They were rather unimpressive.

The path out to the pools was well traveled but still steeper than what most of the travelers wanted to do. The pools were nice, but after walking a mile and a half to see them, we expected more. I’m fact, we had seen more, and more impressive, with far fewer other people around on our hikes.

This wasn’t the experience we wanted, so we hustled out and headed back toward our house. But, we stopped for more fish and chips first.

This time, we came prepared. First, we were starving so we knew we’d likely order too much food. And second, we brought ketchup with us. That isn’t a normal condiment for chips (fries) here, so we spent 60 pence on a bottle at the grocery store knowing we would put it to use. And did we ever.

Stretch had a prawn roll and an order of fish and chips. I went for the fish and chips, but started with an order of Skink Soup. I hadn’t heard of it before, and had no clue what it was. I wasn’t disappointed, it was amazing. The place apparently won the Northern Europe award for the soup, and while I couldn’t compare it to anything I understood. It is a cream soup of smoked cod and potato with local herbs. Awesome. We also ended up with hard cider to drink, really common in northern Scotland.

Then it was back to the house to pack and enjoy our final night in our Airbnb before the drive back to Edinburgh on Friday.

Isle of Skye didn’t disappoint. It was spectacular and impressive. There might have been some things left to see, but maybe the next trip.
