Góða ferð

Appropriately titled “Bon Voyage” in Icelandic, this post highlights a trip starting Friday that I have been waiting to take since the sixth grade.  Ever since I wrote a report about Iceland for Mr. Libby’s class, I have wanted to make a trip to see the country for myself.  In celebration of turning 40, I’m making the journey into the very North Atlantic to tour a country that most people would consider me crazy for wanting to experience.

Route Map

Traveling with just my friend Tim, as my family was completely uninterested in making this trip, a safe touchdown in Keflavik at 7am local time on Saturday morning will begin a roughly 2,200 km drive around the country.  We have a ton of things planned and will be documenting everything.

We have a very aggressive itinterary planned, as most people making a 10 day trip don’t venture into the Northwestern Fjords, try to make it to Husavik in the north, or cover the entire southern coast.  Usually one of those is plenty.  But we plan on taking advantage of 21 hours of daylight and the Icelandic love of coffee to make this happen.

Those of you following can expect to see unique food (likely mine as Tim is a little cautious in that department), precarious cliffs (that would be Tim, not me), a lot of waterfalls, ice, volcanos, and maybe even a location from Game of Thrones.

We are looking forward to sharing with you, and will be working to post at least each night as we should have WiFi most places.  Otherwise, cell reception is great and will be used for small posts here and there in this blog and on Instagram.

Hopefully you find it entertaining, I know we will.
