Soaking it In

Today was our last day in Paris, and our time on the road is starting to show. Everyone is exhausted. The girls slept in. We picked up breakfast and brought it back. I was so out of it I may have thrown out part of the Nespresso machine. I may not have, but I’m not sure.

We all met up for a daytime Eiffel Tower experience, and it was totally different than last night. The crew working was more organized and things ran smoother. The visibility was great and you got a much better feel for the city. But it was also way more crowded.

From the tower we went to lunch near the Arc de Triomphe. It was a long leisurely lunch, with drinks and laughter. Having only seen the Arc in pictures and from the windows of speeding cars, I guess I didn’t truly understand the grandeur and significance. The entire arc is a sculpture depicting France’s military history and leadership.

It is a massive presence in the city. We just happened to be visiting during a significant police presence – dozens of cruisers and officers out and walking around with guns drawn. I felt quite safe even with piles of burned materials on thenaidewalls after last night’s protests.

We went into the Arc and climbed the stairs to the museum and then to the rooftop terrace for the views. In many ways this was an even more impressive view than the Eiffel Tower. You could still see most of Paris, but it was real, not insanely far away.

Next was a stroll through Champs Elysees. Let’s be honest, the “high end” stores and poseurs with Ferraris aren’t impressive. We live in Vegas and have all that. And its inside with air conditioning.

But, we had a mission. Apparently there was some ourse on sale that Susie’s sister had have but couldn’t find online. So we were on the hunt. Walking into Longchamp and checking in with security seemed odd to me with a 20 foot long mural of Kendall Jenner watching, but whatever. The kids and Susie found it and made the purchase.

We split up to return to Tim and Susie’s hotel, with Susie and the three younger ones grabbing an Uber while the rest of us opted to walk the mile.

This was out best view of Paris yet. Authentic and not touristy. It was calming on a Saturday night.

We had a late long dinner, and came back to the hotel to pack up. We watched the light show on the tower from our balcony one last time before calling it a night. After all, its 2am and our ride to the airport will be here in a little over two more hours…
